Robert Bulatao (district 6):
What drove you to consider a career in local politics:
Bulatao has been an activist for the past 26 years. He was diagnosed with Leukemia, which opened his eyes to many of the injustices of the healthcare system, and other issues. From there he began to get involved with politics, which drove him to run for city council.
What is the biggest change you would like to see in San Leandro?
Bulatao wants to solve problems surrounding housing, infrastructure, public safety, equity and inclusion. He also wants to work on changing the voting system in San Leandro.
What do you think makes you qualified to run for local office?
Robert highlighted his ability to learn and listen to the broad masses of the people. He serves on the board for Generation Music & Art academy, he also has a leadership position in Urban Habitat for their leadership institute.
How would you define your role as a city council member?
He said he thinks a city council is supposed to put forward measures that solve the problems of the community.
