San Leandro High Football and Cheer Senior Night on Friday, November 8th drew a large audience of family members, friends, and supporting classmates.
The Pirates played a home game at Burrell field against the O’Dowd football team, and our school community came together to celebrate our seniors and give them something special to look back on when they graduate.
“I always expected my senior night to be sad because when I was the underclassman on senior nights I would bawl my eyes out,” said cheerleader Ava McCalip. “But I actually felt very happy and grateful to have had these years with the cheer team and building a family within the sport.”
The halftime show included amazing performances from our cheer team, marching band, and color guard.
“The marching band and color guard were fire,” said Destiny Quijada, a color guard member. “We worked really hard to get our act together and worked with the little time we had to make sure we knew what to do on the field.”
The game overall was great and spirit was kept high thanks to the cheer team, even though our football team lost 23-49.
“The game felt good because you could tell everyone wanted to be present in that moment, whether in the stands, on the sideline, or on the field,” McCalip said. “We were all coming together in that moment to celebrate our school and its seniors.”
