The first SASH club meeting brought together passionate individuals looking to make their school a better place through spreading awareness about sexual harassment and assault. The people running the club are determined to make sure their past experiences with the topic doesn’t happen to anyone else.
The club Officers recognized that the topic of sexual assault and harrasment makes people uneasy and is not normally a chosen topic for people to speak about. The biggest hope of the club is to allow this dialogue to take place so that people can learn more about it.
“I have experienced sexual assault and harassment, and I’ve honestly seen it, all my life from, family and friends, and it’s just something that’s not spoken about as much as how, like, a sensitive topic it is,” said club president Tais Toledo.
Future plans for the club are still not fully planned, but the officers have ideas for how they would like to move forward with the club.
“So one of the things we want to do is [create] events to spread awareness where survivors can share their stories,” said Toledo.
Additionally thier end goal is to hopefully be able to work with organizations that help sexual assault or harrasment victims. Plans for which organizations are still being decided but they hope to even enter ones at the school.
“We do see ourselves, definitely working a lot with the Social Justice Academy.” said..
All of the ideas for the club are still speculating with the officers who are still working out the kinks of the club, but the research for what it can be is going well.
“We’re still kind of doing research of who we can collaborate with” said ..
