Spring sports are now in full swing, and the softball players have taken the field. With last year’s record of 16-11, sophomore Marley Santos is confident they can surpass it. She believes that despite new players joining the team, like herself, the strong bond and hard work they’ve put in will help them beat last year’s record. The addition of fresh talent has injected new energy and skill into the team, enhancing their competitive edge.
“Not I think—I know we can,” Santos states emphatically.
The improved team dynamics and rigorous practice sessions have greatly contributed to their current success.
Balancing a student-athlete schedule can be challenging, as can juggling multiple sports. Many on the team participate in other sports such as flag football, basketball, and cheer. For example, Santos plays flag football and softball at school and baseball outside of school with an older division to challenge herself and improve in the sports she loves.
A major inspiration for Santos has been her father, who passed away when she was five. She believes he would want her to persevere, which motivates her to excel. While she admits that nerves sometimes get in the way, they do not stop her from excelling on the field.
As of this publication, the team’s record is 13-7, and their final game is tomorrow, Friday, May 3, against Mt. Eden. The outcome will determine if they qualify for the NCS. Good luck to our softball pirates!!
