The Davis Street Food and Toy Drive aims to help families that are struggling to provide food and unused toys for their kids during the holidays. With the help of this organization, many families will be able to enjoy the month of December with donations gifted by the warming community.
“I’ve been doing this for years and years, and I do it for the love of my community,” said Emile Awwad, Basic Needs Manager of the Davis Street Organization.
Davis Street distributes a record number of holiday baskets to seniors, families, and single people every year in the San Leandro and surrounding Eden area. Toys and full holiday meals have been included in these baskets for families in need for over 50 years by Davis Street in collaboration with local schools, clubs and church organizations, the Alameda Fire Departments, and local businesses.
“These organizations will be giving out boxes of food and fresh poultry, and seasonal canned foods that will be distributed for families this upcoming December 23rd,” said Evelyn Afusia, San Leandro High Parent Facilitator.
Students are encouraged to donate toys and canned goods in the provided donation box at the main campus of San Leandro High School. It’s not too late to give out donations, the program runs until December 16th during school hours. Any donations will be appreciated!
