Mila Oliva, former Editor-in-Chief of the San Leandro High Cargo and a graduate of Yale University with a degree of economics, works for the Congressional Budget Office. She visited San Leandro’s library on Friday, Nov. 24. during lunch and fourth period, where she shared her experiences at Yale and offered advice for students who were interested in applying to top universities and colleges.
Oliva chose Yale for several reasons, including that it provides a liberal arts education, has a strong culture of art and music, and has strong academic and social support. Some of the support systems available at Yale include a peer assistant community, financial guidance, mental health support and many other forms of assistance.
Oliva offered advice for those applying and getting into these colleges. The number one tip was to get involved in a community or find welcoming, fun people. Another important piece of advice was to always ask for help when navigating higher education — whether from professors or peers, seeking assistance is always crucial and helpful. She also recommended exploring the varieties of classes. She also recommended during her presentation that students should explore the varieties of clases available to make one’s academic experience more diverse. As this can help your college experience.
That was Mila Oliva’s recent experience, along with some valuable advice for students that are planning to apply to Yale or other colleges. She is considering going back to school to pursue a master’s degree or work for another government agency in the future.
