San Leandro High School’s Gxrl Up club has launched the SLHS Period Product Survey for the 2024-2025 school year to gather student feedback on the availability and quality of menstrual products on campus. This drive follows the Menstrual Equity for All Act of 2021, which requires California schools to provide free menstrual products in all restrooms on campus.
“We’re hoping to get a representative sample that tells us how students feel about the quality of the menstrual products at our school and how accessible they are,” said Gxrl Up President Kayla Lam. “This includes whether students can find enough products in restrooms when they need them or if they’re comfortable contacting a custodian to restock.”
The survey is available online via a QR code posted around campus and aims to provide crucial data to guide the administration in making future improvements.
“This data will help us back up the points we make when talking to the admin or the school board,” Lam explained. “For example, if students don’t like the quality of the products, we can propose sourcing better ones. Or, if there aren’t enough products, we can work with the admin to find better stocking solutions.”
Students are highly encouraged to participate and share their thoughts, as their input will only benefit them but also help the school create a more supportive and comfortable environment.
“No matter who you are, regardless of your gender or grade level, your feedback matters. Please take the time to complete this short survey,” Lam said.
