Associate Principal Ms. Stobing’s priority is community. She previously worked at Mount Diablo Unified School District for 21 years and could not find a community like the one at San Leandro High. She works hard to bring more class options to students and to make sure everyone who walks into her office is welcomed.
Stobing’s attendance at school events like Friday night football games, Social Justice Academy’s One Love One Mic, plays and concerts highlight her involvement in school activities and desire to connect on a deeper level with students and the school community as a whole. Her involvement in the community extends further than school events, students are able to meet with her to change their schedules or just to talk and hang out.
“I wanted to make a bigger impact than just working with kids in an afterschool program, ” Stobing said, “so I decided to get my teaching credentials.”
This was just the push she needed to get her teaching credentials.
“I do like to get to know the kids and oftentimes that meeting with them then creates a space for us to actually have a better relationship and I can help support,” Stobing said, “maybe they were having a really rough day or they needed something that they didn’t have and that’s why they acted out in class.”
Stobing’s job may, every so often, include disciplining students but she works to understand the students struggles instead of dealing out punishments without any context or reasoning behind their actions.
“We just want to go bigger. We want to bring more programs in. We’re talking about our dual enrollment program where, you know, we have all those after school classes that are taught by college professors. We’re making that a bigger program here.” Stobing said.
She is always looking for new opportunities for students to grow by adding more programs or expanding the dual enrollment program.
Ms. Stobing is around the clock, showing her love for the scholars and community of San Leandro High. From working one on one to showing up for the many afterschool events, her actions make San Leandro High a safe place for all.
“I just love that we are a one comprehensive school, town and that everything is here and that our city and community really support you guys and the future of our students here.” Stobing said.
