The girls water polo team took their first win of the season on September 30th against Ukiah High, but to senior Hailey Fitzgerald, the relationship with the team is the real win.

With fall sports coming to an end, water polo captain Hailey Fitzgerald from San Leandro High tells us how, despite a challenging beginning to the season, the team improved with every game. After playing for four years, Hailey describes water polo as a real team sport: everyone works together and you need the whole team to succeed. 

“Since our team is smaller it’s more close-knit, and it’s kind of like a family,” Hailey says.

Hailey Fitzgerald has been captain of her water polo team for two years. While difficult, she has learned to balance both being a student and an athlete. Being a student comes before being an athlete, so she prioritized her school over water polo despite being tired after practice.
