“Girl in pieces” by Kathleen Glawgow is one of the first books I read that I truly loved. When I first started reading it, I couldn’t put it down and I finished it in two days. This book may be difficult or triggering to read because it deals with hard topics, but it feels so honest and real.
Charlie has gone through a lot of pain. She deals with being homeless, self-harm, and losing people she loves. All very hard topics but the book talks about them in such a real and respectful way. It shows how hard life can be but also how strong a person can be when facing these kinds of problems.
I think teens should read this book because it starts conversations about mental health and a lot of other important topics people don’t talk about much. It can help the readers feel more understood and less alone. For example there are parts in the book where she talks about how sad she is and how alone she feels although she has people by her side and I believe that is something a lot of teens and just anyone going through a hard time can relate to.
Reading this book can help people develop empathy and understanding for others going through similar experiences. It encourages others to be more compassionate towards those who are struggling.
Overall “Girl In Pieces” is a very emotional and touching book. It made me feel connected to the characters and what they went through. The way people were trying to help her really touched me and reminded me of my own personal experiences. I think it’s an important read for anyone, especially teens, who want to learn more about the struggles people tend to face that we aren’t always aware of and the strength it takes to overcome these types of problems.
