Two highly anticipated school events are happening in the same week: Setting Sail on Thursday September 18th and Club Rush on Friday September 19th. These events will be all about focusing on clubs growing their reach in our school and raising money for future events.
Events like Setting Sail and Club Rush are important because these events advocate for clubs and build our overall school community. Clubs at our school give many students different places to come together to share things that they all have in common or even the chance to provide for community service activities which is why these types of events that advocate for clubs are big and important.
“They basically are able to see the different clubs that we have here to offer at school, we actually have a lot of new clubs this year, so I think we’re around 60 clubs as of right now. So it’s going to be a really fun day, and we have a lot of student participation,” said ASB President Gabriella Martin, 12.
With the large amount of clubs that we have this school year at San Leandro high; most clubs will be having a lot of interesting tasks and planning to do for these events.
“Club rush and setting sail are really big events. I think clubs should really stay on top of it. There’s a lot of paperwork and forms to fill out, so clubs should really be watching that and making sure they get that turned in on time,” said ASB Vice President Sofia Sotelo. “These are some major things club presidents and boards should be doing to prepare. Club rush and setting sail are just the beginning of ASB team’s larger goal for improving our school this year.”
“Our new updated plan this year is to make sure that we have all clubs and academies involved, that’s including sports, SJ, all the clubs, just to make sure that we’re all more connected. I think our main goal for this year is to ensure that all of our activities are well communicated,” said Martin. “That’s how we can make sure that everyone knows what’s going on and that they don’t clash. Because one of the issues that came up to us last year was that we had a lot of activities going around at the same time, so we weren’t able to attend all of them.”
Sotelo also had some other useful insights to give us on what specifically ASB wanted to improve or bring back this year.
“ASB is trying to improve by bringing the school spirit back. They, I knowthey really want to bring back pride Fridays, and they just really want the school to be more connected and together.” said Sotelo.
