Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, is now streaming on Hulu after a theatrical release in the fall. This movie allows us to see a chunk of Bruce Springsteen’s career, focusing on the making of his 1982 album, “Nebraska.” Throughout the movie we get to see a glimpse of Springsteen’s personal struggles including his depression, anxiety and isolation.
Jeremy Allen White’s acting was great as he managed to put up Springsteen’s New Jersey accent and represent Springsteen at a low state in his life. The car scene was a great moment in the movie where Springsteen is seen driving recklessly and breaking down. The scene depicts his current mental state, primarily focusing on his frustration and depression.
The film highlighted Springsteen’s mental health, showing how he used music to cope with his struggles, how it affected his daily life and relationships. By highlighting mental health, the viewers got to acknowledge that despite having fame and success, people continue to struggle with mental health issues.
I rate the movie 4/5 stars. While the film did a great job showing a part of Springsteen’s career, the movie felt slow and focused more on the down side of his career.
