The movie, “Playdate,” released on Nov. 12, 2025, directed by Luke Greenfield, is an action and comedy movie aiming to be funny but is also very stereotypical. This movie tells a story about Brian, who is a recently unemployed accountant, and an ex soldier named Jack meeting at a park with their sons to go on a playdate, but were later pursued by mercenaries. While trying to escape, Jack later reveals that CJ, his oddly strong son, was not his son but that he was found inside of a lab. In truth, CJ was his clone created by Jack’s DNA through a program that wanted to create emotionless supersoldiers and the mercenaries are there to put CJ back in captivity.
The movie had many one-on-one fighting scenes within their effort of trying to escape, but this film had many downsides. There was sexual language and jokes with added profanity that were supposed to be funny but felt very forced to be added into the plot. In some scenes the adults are involved in smoking and drinking at a children’s park. Although profanity or reckless behavior aren’t rare in action-motivated movies, these actions seem unnecessary to the supposed bonding time between the two fathers and sons.
The movie also had a scene where a woman got tased by her child and was hit by a truck which she was later presumed to be dead. It is quite violent for something that is called “Playdate” since their main objective is to escape from the mercenaries who are attempting to capture CJ. Although the plot was a total mess, in the end both Jack and CJ reunite to become each other’s families after all the obstacles they’ve been through.
This movie is a 2.5 out of 5 and not recommended unless the audience is bored and is ready to be thrown into a jumble of sub plots that don’t match up with the movie.
